The best 55-inch 4K TVs of 2023 – REVIEW Top 5+

The best 55-inch 4K TV is the perfect size to really get the most out of your Ultra HD entertainment. A 55-inch TV once seemed like a dizzying behemoth installed in the living room, but in recent years, it’s become the standard size for the ultimate home theater.

1. LG C2 OLED Series

For those drawn to the deep blacks and infinite contrast of OLED TVs, the LG C2 series is the way to go. It takes all the goodness of the previous C1 series and ups the brightness to make it one of the best TVs you can buy today. LG may not have given a major revamp to the C1 OLED for this 2022 model, but the incremental improvements are useful, and the connectivity options you get are unmatched.

Improvements for the 2022 model include a new Alpha a9 Gen 5 processor, which is said to offer better object enhancement and dynamic tone mapping than its predecessor. You also get “virtual surround sound,” where the TV upscales stereo content to 7.1.2-channel sound. While we don’t buy the virtual surround sound claims, audio performance is decent for a flat-screen TV, and a range of different sound modes means you should be able to find an audio profile that suits your needs.

LG’s already excellent webOS smart TV platform has been updated, and excellent connectivity including four HDMI 2.1 ports all support 4K/120Hz, making this a great TV for gamers, no matter what you see, it Both have really good brightness and contrast. Color saturation is even better than before, and there are new features to prevent burn-in and image retention to ensure your TV lasts longer.

The LG C2 showcases everything we love about OLED technology, with excellent brightness and contrast levels and great gaming capabilities. We think this is the best 55-inch TV for most people.

2. TCL 6-Series Roku TV (2022)

TCL’s 6-Series TVs are known for their combination of stunning picture quality and great value, and the latest iteration of the company’s flagship not only continues that tradition, but improves upon it. The new 6-Series will come in screen sizes ranging from 55 inches to 85 inches and will launch in late 2022. It offers a great big-screen option, not only for movie buffs but also for gamers on a budget.

In the 6-Series, mini-LED technology enables high brightness, while a layer of quantum dots enhances color rendering, and local dimming across the array produces deep, detailed shadows. The set features Dolby Vision IQ, which ensures high dynamic range images look good in both dark and well-lit environments, and HDR support extends to HDR10+ and HLG.

Gaming capabilities on the 6-Series TV are enabled via a pair of HDMI 2.1 inputs, with built-in support for 120Hz, variable refresh rates (up to 144Hz) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). FreeSync Premium Pro is also supported, making TCL’s flagship an obvious choice for gaming.

The new 6-Series is one of the more attractive TV options on the market. The series is packed with features and performance is well above average, especially considering the price.

3. Samsung BU8500

This Samsung TV is one of the best TVs you can buy, and its smallest sub-£500 version is also one of the best in the 1K brand. The Samsung BU8500 aims to offer some cutting-edge features, an understated look, and rock-solid build quality at a price point most of us won’t shy away from. This is absolutely true.

At this price, you won’t get picture quality on par with the best TVs overall, but it does rival the best TVs under £1,000. Samsung has never lacked for competitiveness, and its backlighting is beautifully designed to endlessly back up the impression of quality. It even sounds pretty good as long as you temper your expectations…but we still think you should add one of the best soundbars out there.

This is a 4K LED screen equipped with a Samsung Crystal 4K processor that supports HDR HLG and HDR10+ standards. As with Samsung, there is no Dolby Vision. There are three HDMI 2.0, one of which is eARC for the soundbar, along with Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi connectivity.

4. Sony XR-A95K

The Sony A95K is indeed worth a look. Available in 55-inch and 65-inch sizes, Sony’s flagship display combines its stunning Cognitive XR processor with a new quantum dot OLED screen. The result, in our opinion, is one of the most beautiful pictures we’ve seen from consumer television.

While picture quality is the real star of the show here, overall, there’s a lot to like about this TV. The audio is great, thanks to the Acoustic Surface technology in high-end Sony TVs, which essentially turns the TV’s screen into speakers — though we always recommend pairing your new TV with a soundbar.

Excellent workmanship and high quality. Design-wise, the Sony A95K is certainly a statement piece. Unusually, it also has a full-width sheet metal stand so you can place the monitor in the front or back for more display.

Conclusion

Otherwise, 4K HDR is a given, and if gaming is your thing, you might want to check out the inclusion of HDMI 2.1, often with built-in VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) support.
